If you’re missing a tooth or a few teeth, a dental bridge might be the solution you’re looking for. With aesthetic and functional solutions for single-tooth bridges and to replace multiple missing teeth, Iconic Dentistry has a range of options to help you bridge the gap and enjoy your smile again.
What is a dental bridge?
A tooth bridge is one of several options for tooth replacement that our clinic offers. A dental bridge is formed using adjacent teeth as an anchor that allow an artificial tooth/teeth to be joined while filling in gaps. Both single-tooth bridges and bridges involving multiple teeth not only give a pleasing aesthetic result, but they give you back speech and chewing function that the missing teeth may have caused. The result is a natural-looking smile that can give you back your confidence and allow you to use your teeth as normal again.
Fitting and securing your dental bridge usually takes two appointments. The first to prepare the teeth to support the bridge. A temporary bridge is then used in the interim so you can have your missing teeth replaced immediately. This allows us to design and construct your bridge like a fine art. The next visit we will issue the final bridge, and you are good to go. Of course we will always want to see you for a review afterwards once things have settled so we can ensure your bridge is doing everything it needs to.
Deciding if a dental bridge is right for you
Our expert dental team will consult with you to determine which method of tooth replacement is suitable for you. Selecting the proper method of replacement depends on a range of factors, including your functional requirements, the teeth surrounding where gaps need to be filled, your aesthetic expectations, the bone structure in your jaw and your unique bite. Once we have assessed all of these areas, we can begin to advise you on the best solution. If a dental bridge is appropriate for you, we will start the process of preparing and fitting your new dental device.

FAQs
How long does a dental bridge procedure take?
Once you’ve had an initial consultation with one of our dentists, the procedure of preparing and fitting your dental bridge can start. Generally, this will commence with a first appointment to prepare the surrounding teeth to support the bridge. Scans and impressions of your teeth will also take place at this time, so we can get to work fabricating the perfect replacement tooth to suit your smile. A temporary bridge is used in the interim so you can adjust to the new look and feel of your tooth replacement. Within a few weeks, your permanent bridge will be ready to be fitted. We’ll always want to see you a few weeks afterwards to make sure the bridge is just right, and doing exactly what it’s meant to. Please note: for some bridges there may be a few other appointments in between to make sure everything is done just right.
How do you clean a dental bridge?
As a functional replacement for missing teeth, dental bridges can be brushed and cleaned just as you would the rest of your smile. Because the bridge sits just above the gums and is not implanted directly into the jaw, care should be taken to thoroughly clean underneath the bridge and not just around it. Flossing can help ensure a good clean – though this can be a bit trickier with a bridge. Your dentist will teach you how to best floss around your bridge. Antibacterial mouthwash can also be used with dental bridges.
