A mouthguard helps absorb and spread the impact of a blow to the face that might otherwise result in an injury to the mouth or jaw. This may otherwise cause: broken teeth, tooth loss, soft tissue injuries and jaw injuries.
Not all mouthguards are equal. Research shows that boil and bite (over the counter) mouthguards give negligible protection only. They have poor fit, poor durability and are unstable.
