The ADA and Standards Australia recommends only custom-fitted mouthguards made by a dentist.
Sporting accidents are one of the most common causes of dental injury. Every year, thousands of people including young children are treated for dental injuries that could have been avoided by wearing a protective custom fitted mouthguard.
A mouthguard should be worn during ANY contact sport. This includes: Football, basketball, hockey, water polo, lacrosse, netball, baseball, softball, squash, soccer, BMX, horse riding, skateboarding, skating, cricket, and water skiing.
A mouthguard helps absorb and spread the impact of a blow to the face that might otherwise result in an injury to the mouth or jaw. This may otherwise cause: broken teeth, tooth loss, soft tissue injuries and jaw injuries.
Not all mouthguards are equal. Research shows that boil and bite (over the counter) mouthguards give negligible protection only. They have poor fit, poor durability and are unstable. At Iconic Dentistry, our mouthguards are designed for maximum protection. Dual laminated to improve impact force absorption and dispersion. Custom fitted for protecting the teeth and soft tissues, and stabilising the jaws on impact.
