One of our friendly Receptionists and Dental Assistant Emma has recently said farewell to us in order to travel around Asia before returning to the UK. In between stints with us, Emma travelled the outback, working in farms north and south of Perth and experiencing our beautiful and sunny country.
She’s expressed how much she’s enjoyed our warm and mild weather – one of the things that we are sure she’ll miss once she’s back in Windsor. We will definitely miss Emma’s welcoming smile each day and her gentle nature. Good luck Emma and we hope to see you return again one day.
All About the Smile: Mouthguards
Many patients have asked if it is “ok” to use ready-made mouthguards. The simple answer is NO. Nothing compares to a custom fitted mouthguard. Each year, thousands of adults and children are treated for dental injuries that could have been prevented by wearing a custom fitted mouthguard. Anyone who plays a contact sport should wear a mouthguard as the damage from an accident can lead to a lifetime of dental issues. It is certainly more costly and painful to repair missing or broken teeth than preventing it to happen in the first place.
With pre-season training for winter sports commencing, it is time to re-evaluate mouthguards. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends having mouthguards custom fitted and checked every year for fit. “Children’s teeth and jaws change each year just as much as their feet grow so it’s important that they see a dentist to have their mouthguard checked. An ill-fitting mouthguard could actually do more harm than good” according to Professor David Manton, Chair of the ADA’s Oral Health Committee.
Our custom fitted mouthguards are made in-house and can be ready for you in 24 hours. All you need is a 15 minute booking for a mouthguard impression and we do the rest! Whether you are a professional or budding athlete, we can make the right mouthguard for you.
